Covid-19: NYC 5 Boroughs, Nassau & Westchester to 10.16.20
Of the five boroughs, Staten Island is consistently number 1 or 2 in cases per thousand. With population density a fraction of the rest of the city, the logical expectation is that it will have the lowest counts. It doesn’t. As with the White House superspreader event, the problem is not intrinsically one of large numbers of people in one place, but those people being unmasked and not social-distancing – it’s a problem of local messaging. At a local level in the five boroughs, Republican elected officials seem to tweet and issue statements about all subjects under the sun except encouraging their constituents to mask up and practice social distancing.
