My preference is strongly biased in favor of basic counts, no averages, no trend lines, no pretty pictures. Pretty pictures re-present reality, but too often, IMO, they also mis-re-present reality. They present a view point. Even when the counts plot starts to thicken, gets too “busy” like this 5 boro comparison, it says Staten Island is higher than it ought to be, maybe population density is irrelevant if the social-distancing and masking message is politicized and missing or diluted.
